Announcing The 2022 Badge Summit
Bigger, blended, and at University of Colorado Boulder
The 2022 Badge Summit is coming to Boulder, Colorado, on August 1–2, 2022! There will also be a virtual-only gathering on August 9 that will feature both live sessions and recordings from the conference the previous week.
For our seventh(!) annual Badge Summit, we will combine our enthusiasm for returning to face-to-face meetings with our learning from two years of online gatherings to deliver the valuable content and meaningfully collisions that our participants and sponsors expect. We will also continue to take risks and innovate with our offerings.
Check out a complete list of confirmed sessions, including presenters from 4 continents, representing myriad universities, community colleges, K12 stakeholders, and organizations including the National Governors Association, CBEN, Brookings, Deloitte, and many more!
This year’s conference promises to be a powerful learning experience for all attendees, from the folks deeply immersed in the world of micro-credentials to the badge-curious who are ready to dip their toes in the waters for the first time.
The big new announcement is that The Badge Summit is transitioning from a wandering event to putting down roots in a permanent new home on the campus of the University of Colorado Boulder!
Another big announcement is that, thanks to the support of our sponsors, we are able to honor our presenters with steep conference discounts. The lead presenter of each in-person session will be able to register for just $100, and virtual presenters will receive complimentary registration to the August 9 gathering.
Speaking of presenting, a final new announcement is with the 5 Minute Session Proposal Form. Rather than spend hours on a proposal that might not get accepted, presenters take a few moments to share the gist of their sessions with organizers. Only accepted sessions will have to submit formal descriptions for the conference program, and even then the pressure is less because the session is already accepted!
The Return of What Works
As we continue to innovate and evolve, we are keen to also value what works. Organizers are evaluating proposals of traditional presentations, panels and workshops based on meeting the diverse learning needs of Badge Summit attendees. We’re excited to try out the Badgesplaining format for the first time in-person, as well as bring back popular content including:
On July 25th, we will be offering a free pre-conference session for all registered attendees (including virtual attendees!).
Featuring Richard LaFosse of Michigan State University and Erika Swain of University of Colorado, this session offers participants the opportunity to look at and learn about the “hidden” regulations that apply to MCRs, bootcamps and other similar programs offered by colleges and universities. What are we, as recognized providers of higher education, required to provide or tell our students who enroll in these programs? Are there other expectations that come with providing a certification with our institution’s name on it that we need to be aware of? What about for less formal, noncredit, activities? This session will also look at the regulatory “perfect storm” that appears to be forming on the horizon.
The Dream Makers’ Lounge
The Dream Makers’ Lounge is a design space staffed by facilitators with Badge implementation experience. The purpose of this space is to provide attendees who are dreaming about Badges with an opportunity to actually sit down with these skilled facilitators and accomplish design work to make those dreams happen by beginning to build a Badge System for their own schools and districts. This year, the proposal form includes the opportunity for attendees to propose a “How might we ___?” question for a Dream Makers’ Lounge session.
Ask Me Anything | Table Talk Sessions
The Badge Summit brand of poster sessions is back by popular demand. Some will have traditional poster sessions, others will have a sign encouraging others to “Ask me about ______.” Some have compared it to structured networking that allows insiders to connect and everyone to learn.
Badge Summit registration includes an opening evening reception on August 1, snacks, breakfast and lunch on August 2. We strive to accommodate for food allergies and specific dietary needs. The registration form provides space to let us know about your needs.
On campus at the University of Colorado Boulder, we will be learning and sharing inside some of the best spaces Badge Summit has known, while enjoying stunning outdoor views.
The inspiring spaces are a great match for an innovative conference like ours. The campus is located in the heart of Boulder, and features accessible parking, convenient public transportation, and plenty of B-Cycle bike rental stations. Boulder is located just 35 minutes from downtown Denver and with easy transportation options to and from Denver International Airport. .
Early bird registration is $245 ($290 after June 30). Registration also includes access to the virtual-only gathering on August 9. For attendees who are only able to participate on August 9, the online event registration is $100.
Thanks to the generous support of sponsors, a limited amount of need-based aid is available to support access to the conference. To be considered, send an email to email@example.com with “scholarship” in the subject line. State the amount (up to full registration price) requested. Badge Summit organizers trust that participants requesting aid are doing so because it is needed, so no explanation of need is required.
All of this information and more is available on the official 2022 Badge Summit at CU Boulder web page. Please contact us for inquiries about press passes, discount registration or any other questions you may have, as well as for information about Sponsor and Exhibitor packages.
If you are planning to attend or present and have accessibility needs, we want to understand your needs for having a great Badge Summit experience. If you are willing, we invite you to collaborate with us to co-create a personalized plan that ensures your access and dignity as a participant.
